Dr. Daewoo Kim

Founder and representative director of Monara·Monara Hair Clinic (모나라피부과의원)

Seoul, South Korea

Background

Dr Daewoo Kim (김대우) is a dermatologist and the founder and representative director of Monara (모나라피부과의원), a clinic in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, whose site is about hair transplants, hair loss treatment and scalp micropigmentation 124. His Korean page says he previously led Mogun Dermatology and lists unshaven FUE, large-session and body hair transplants and scalp micropigmentation as his specialties 1. It lists talks at KSHRS meetings each year from 2020 to 2024 1. The English site calls the clinic Monara Hair Clinic and says Dr Kim has had FUE himself 23.

Procedures and techniques

Monara's menu lists high-density unshaven FUE, large-session and body hair transplants, women's hairline and crown transplants, eyebrow and sideburn transplants, revision and scar transplants, scalp micropigmentation and hair loss treatment 4. The English FUE page says FUE is sometimes done by a hair technician and other times by Dr Kim with an advanced practitioner such as a nurse or physician assistant 8. It does not say how the work is split at Monara in a given case 8.

Pricing

The Korean fee notice lists only certificate fees, not transplant prices 5. The English FUE page gives an estimate in hairs, not grafts: $5,000 for 1,000 hairs, $9,880 for 2,000 hairs and $14,900 for 3,000 hairs 8. It says this is an estimate and that the exact quote comes at a free consultation 8. There is no figure for 3,000 grafts 8.

Booking and aftercare

The clinic is on the 5th floor at 15 Nonhyeon-ro 171-gil, a minute's walk from exit 4 of Apgujeong Station 6. Consultations are free, and the English site takes enquiries and photos from overseas patients by phone, email and an online form 78.

Credentials and memberships

The member finder of the KSHRS (Korean Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, 대한모발이식학회) lists Dr Kim at Monara 9. His Korean page says he is the society's standing director for general affairs and was previously its standing director for academic affairs 1. It also lists membership of the Korean Dermatological Association and the Korean Hair Research Society 1.
