Dr. Kenneth Buchwach
Co-owner and surgeon·Buchwach Goldstein Hair Restoration Clinic
Overland Park, United States
$5.50 ≈ €14,500 rough estimate for 3,000 grafts Per graft · Cost detailsBackground
Dr Kenneth Buchwach practises at the Buchwach Goldstein Hair Restoration Clinic in Overland Park, Kansas, which he runs with Dr Craig Goldstein 1. The clinic says his practice is exclusively hair transplantation 2. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Missouri in 1974 and trained in otolaryngology and facial plastic surgery 3. The clinic says he has performed over eight thousand hair transplants over four decades 2. It says about half of its patients live outside the Kansas City area 4.
Procedures and techniques
The clinic says it focuses on FUE and occasionally performs FUT 1. It uses the SmartGraft suction-assisted device and says up to 3,500 grafts can be harvested in one session if necessary 5. It describes a motorised punch leaving openings of 1 mm or less, with each FUE graft checked under the microscope 4. It describes FUT as appropriate for almost all women and strongly recommends FUE for men 4. It says it treats one patient per day 6. The procedure takes most of the day under local anaesthesia, and the clinic expects full recovery in about a week 5.
Pricing
The clinic publishes a price of $5.50 per graft for both FUE and FUT 7. At that rate, 3,000 grafts would come to $16,500; this is our arithmetic, not a clinic figure 7. It says its usual case is 1,500 to 2,500 grafts 7. It does not say what the price includes 7. Payment plans are offered through Cherry 8.
Booking and aftercare
Local patients meet the doctors in person, and out-of-town patients can have a phone consultation with digital photos 4. The clinic says all consultations are done by Dr Buchwach and Dr Goldstein personally 4. It says patients can usually return to work a day or two after the procedure 5. It says growth begins after four to six months, with full results after nine months or more 5.
Credentials and memberships
He is listed as an ISHRS Full Member in Overland Park 3. The clinic says he has been an ISHRS member since its founding in 1993 2. His ISHRS listing gives board certification by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (1991) and the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (1979) 3. The clinic lists him as a Fellow of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and of the American College of Surgeons 2.

- folliculitis needing antibiotics; density weak source ↗
airporteffect, a 33-year-old man, had 2350 FUE grafts with Dr. Buchwach in Leawood, Kansas in January 2023 at $5/graft (about $11,750), and tracked it in updates through one year. Early on he called it a pleasant experience with a super responsive doctor, but also said he got folliculitis treated with antibiotics, that the biggest negative feedback was weak density, and 'lesson learned' on grafts placed in the frontal forelock. By 5 to 9 months he was stoked on progress and called him the savior of his hairline; at 10 months he said the surgeon and convenience made it worthwhile, while noting it was a lot of money for cosmetics. His one-year final results post gave no written verdict.

complete__idiot had an FUE with Dr Kenneth Buchwach in Leawood, Kansas in November 2023 and said he paid just over $15K; he also confirmed a price of 5.50 per graft. Early on his hair looked row-like, but after shock loss and regrowth he said it came back looking "perfectly random/natural", with uneven density his remaining worry at about 6.5 months. At one year he said he did not hesitate to recommend Dr. Buchwach and would make the same choice again, though he described his density as merely adequate and a commenter suggested a second operation. He posted a further photo update at 13 months.

Fantastic-Mess8689 posted a 7-8 month update after a 2,800-graft FUE with Buchwach, with photos; no cost was shared. They said they were "overjoyed with results so far" while noting it is still not perfect and a touch-up around 15 months is possible. They described the doctor as conservative with the hairline and placing grafts further back so it looks natural as the crown thins, and said he did not push finasteride once they mentioned side effects.

okctressless had about 2900 grafts with Kenneth Buchwach in Kansas City in 2024 for about $15k, and posted at 7 months asking whether progress was just slow. They say progress showed at about 5 months but seemed to stall between months 6 and 7. They had asked for 4k grafts, but say the surgeon was conservative about over-harvesting, felt 2900 was all the donor allowed, and suggested returning later for another 2k or so. They give no overall verdict.

clarkaj1455 had 2,512 grafts with Dr. Buchwach in Leawood, Kansas in November 2022, concentrated on the front, and chose him because he found a great surgeon five minutes from his house. He reported minimal pain controlled with Motrin, with the numbing injections the worst part, and about three days of heavy swelling. At 5 months he was "Pretty happy with it!" with good growth, though he had redness he thought worse than usual and folliculitis for a couple of months that had since cleared. He repeated in October 2023 that he was pretty happy. No price was given.

The doctor originally recommended 1200 grafts and it was raised to 1500 on the day. They had a full shed of the transplanted grafts, with undergrowth at 3.5 months, about 80% by 4.5 months and about 95% by month 7. At one year they call the result low-density but natural and say their experience with the staff and Dr Buchwach was perfect.
