Dr. Matthew Lopresti

Chief Hair Restoration Surgeon·Leonard Hair Transplant Associates

Newton Centre, United States

$11,200 Patient reported, Jul 2021 · Cost details

Background

Dr Matthew Lopresti is the Chief Hair Restoration Surgeon at Leonard Hair Transplant Associates, a practice serving Boston and New England 1. The practice says hair restoration is his specialty and the focus of his practice 1. He trained under the practice's founder, Dr Robert Leonard, in a two-year preceptorship 1. The practice says Dr Leonard is retired and no longer performs hair transplant surgery 2. Dr Lopresti's CV lists a DO degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2007, a residency at Boston Medical Center and a fellowship through Harvard Medical School and Veterans Affairs 3. Surgery takes place at the practice's Newton, Massachusetts and Warwick, Rhode Island locations 4. The practice also lists offices in Boston, Braintree and Salem, New Hampshire 5. It says Boston is a consultation location and that surgery is not performed there 8.

Procedures and techniques

The practice says Dr Lopresti personally performs both FUE and FUT 1. The FUE page says he extracts the follicular units manually, using WAW and VORTEX FUE instruments 6. It does not say who makes the recipient incisions or places the grafts 6. For FUE the donor area is trimmed very closely 6. The procedure is done under local anaesthesia, with optional sedation 6. The FUE page says surgery averages about 5 to 7 hours and patients go home the same day 6. It says the final result is generally seen around 16 to 18 months after surgery 6. The practice also offers non-surgical treatment, including PRP with ACell, finasteride and minoxidil 1. His ISHRS listing also names eyebrows, ethnic hair and scar revision 7.

Pricing

The practice publishes no prices 89. It says Dr Lopresti does not price surgery by the graft and that fees are based on the technique, FUE or FUT 8. It says FUE generally costs more than FUT because it takes more of the surgeon's time 8. The cost is given after a complimentary consultation 9. Payment is by cash, bank check or credit card, with financing through CareCredit 9.

Booking and aftercare

Free consultations are offered in person in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire, or virtually 5. The bio says the first conversation is with a member of the practice's team, and Dr Lopresti develops the surgical plan if surgery is appropriate 1. Patients can fly home the same day, but the practice recommends a night in a local hotel 4. Out-of-state patients are followed up by telehealth video 4.

Credentials and memberships

He appears in the ABHRS diplomate register as Matthew F. Lopresti D.O. 10. He is an ISHRS Fellow Member, a member since 2014 per his listing 7. His CV lists board certification in physical medicine and rehabilitation and in spinal cord injury medicine, both in 2013, and state licences in Massachusetts and Rhode Island 3.

    • slightly concerned with growth and density at 6.5 months source ↗

PoK3R_FaC3D had surgery with Dr Lopresti in Boston and posted at 6.5 months, saying he was "slightly concerned with how it's coming in" and asking whether the concern was warranted, while acknowledging full results take up to a year. He uses finasteride and minoxidil daily, does not know his graft count and had a check-in with the doctor planned for the following month. Commenters advised patience or questioned the density in the photos; no later update appears and no price is stated.

    surgery 2021

palmerplanet had an FUT with Dr Lopresti at Leonard Hair Associates (Boston area) in 2021 and posted two weeks later. They say the clinic did not tell them the graft count; a tech who harvested the strip said around 1200 follicles and no graft count appeared in the cost. At two weeks they wrote they were concerned it was not dense enough in the hairline and that the forehead still looked too large. Commenters mostly said two weeks was too early to judge; no later update is given.

    male surgery 2020

bunkerhillballer had an FUE hairline procedure with Dr. Lopresti in Boston in July 2020 and says he paid $11,200, which he called 'definitely steep'; the clinic did not tell him the graft count, only about 1,800-2,000 beforehand. He reported it looked solid at 6 and 7.5 months, hoping for more density. At about a year he rated the result 'a B' and said 'Overall happy but would be thrilled with a bit more density.'
