    • first surgeon conservative to protect donor area source ↗

CuriousSD1976 has not had surgery. He consulted two Los Angeles-area clinics, later identified as McAndrews in Pasadena and Meshkin in Glendale; one recommended 1,600 grafts and the other 3,000, and he does not say which gave which number. He describes the first surgeon as conservative and concerned about not over-harvesting the donor area. He plans a third opinion and prefers a US doctor over travelling abroad.

Pethotdog had an FUT of just over 1200 grafts in 2024 with Dr Paul McAndrews in Pasadena; no price is stated. At 5 months post-op all transplanted hairs had shed and growth had only just started, and he hopes for more density. He calls the surgeon a great guy with a good staff and says he felt comfortable, but says the surgeon was very conservative to protect the donor zone, so he will likely need a second procedure.

  • u/TacoTuesday-97 commenter account since 2020

TacoTuesday-97 had a consultation only, about a month before the 2022 comment, with Paul J McAndrews in Pasadena, costing $150; no surgery is reported. They describe him as friendly, saying he answered virtually all their questions, did not rush them and did not push hair transplants. He also used a small scalp camera to show thin versus thick areas. They call it a good experience overall and would recommend him.
