Dr. Piero Tesauro

Piero Tesauro is a plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgeon in Milan focused on baldness surgery, who earned his medicine degree in 1990 and specialised in plastic surgery in 1995 in Italy, and has led his own surgical team since 1997.1 The practice, Studio Tesauro, operates from Poliambulatorio Gioia in Milan and also lists a second surgeon and separate dermatology staff.1

The clinic offers both Strip and FUE, stating neither is inherently better and the choice depends on donor-area graft availability, decided at consultation.2 FUE is described as differing from Strip only in extraction method, with minimised scarring and faster donor-area healing cited as advantages.2 It also offers a punching-out technique to reduce a widened Strip scar, reconstructive transplants for scarring alopecia, burns or radiotherapy alopecia, eyebrow and beard/moustache transplants, tricopigmentation, PRP, dutasteride and nanofat.3 Surgery is described as teamwork, with each member said to be highly qualified in graft preparation and preservation; the site does not specify who handles extraction or incisions.4 The clinic generally advises against surgery under about 28 to 30, since baldness is often not yet stable at that age, and lists good donor density, stable baldness and a satisfactory therapeutic history as its candidacy requirements, noting female-pattern baldness generally offers less indication given its diffuse pattern.5 A typical procedure is said to take around 6 hours, varying by case and graft count.5

Pricing is per follicular unit: €4 per unit for the first 2,000 units and €3 per unit beyond that, the same for Strip and FUE, and stated to include operating-room costs and all follow-up visits for up to one year after the transplant.6 A first specialist visit costs €250, and a subsequent check-up visit costs €180.6

Specialist visits take place only at the Milan office, with off-site visits currently suspended.7 Appointments are booked by phone on a set weekday schedule, or patients can also request an online consultation by submitting personal details and three photos of the affected areas.7

Tesauro has been President of the Società Italiana di Tricologia (SITRI) and holds active roles with the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, the Associazione Italiana di Chirurgia Plastica Estetica, and the World FUE Institute.1
