Background

Dr Ryan Welter is the founder and medical director of the New England Center for Hair Restoration (NEhair) 1. The clinic site gives its office as 315 University Ave, Westwood, Massachusetts, and markets the practice to patients in Boston 2. His bio says he founded the centre in 2005 1. It says he holds a medical degree from the University of Oklahoma and a doctorate in biochemistry from Oklahoma State University 1. The state licence record lists his medical school as the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, with graduation in 1999 and a family practice residency at Brown University 3. His bio says he taught at Brown as a clinical associate professor until 2019 1.

Procedures and techniques

The clinic offers microFUE, long-hair FUE, ARTAS robotic FUE, NeoGraft and FUT, along with PRP and other cell-based treatments 42. It describes microFUE as FUE with punches of 1 mm or less 5. The clinic says Dr Welter extracts the grafts, makes the recipient incisions and implants the grafts 56. It says technicians sort and prepare the grafts under a microscope 5. After surgery, the clinic applies PRP, a peptide serum and Aquaphor to the donor area 4.

Pricing

The clinic does not publish its own prices 7. It says each procedure is priced individually and the cost is calculated at the consultation 7. Its cost article gives general US ranges of $4,000 to $15,000 and $4 to $10 per graft 8. Those figures describe the market, not the clinic's fees 8. Financing is offered through CareCredit and Union Medical Credit 9.

Booking and aftercare

The clinic advertises free consultations, including a virtual option 410. It says patients come back the day after surgery for a hair wash and a graft check 9. The homepage shows a "Results Guarantee" heading but gives no terms 2.

Credentials and memberships

The ISHRS lists him as a Fellow Member who joined in 2008 11. His Massachusetts medical licence is active until August 2027 3. The state profile lists his board certification as the American Board of Family Medicine 3.

Regulatory record

In March 2021 the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine suspended his licence 12. The Board found that he had advertised falsely, by suggesting he was board-certified in surgery and that an unlicensed physician was licensed 12. The suspension was stayed once he entered a probation agreement 12. The Board's notice says he had agreed not to practise from May 2019 12. In October 2022 the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court upheld the Board's decision 13. In June 2023 the Board ended his probation agreement 143.

  • u/Own-Highway-9026 considering account since 2024

Own-Highway-9026 reports a consultation with Dr Ryan Welter at Nehair clinic in Westwood, MA, where they were quoted 9k to restore the front hairline with 3k grafts (about 3.5 a graft). In 2023 they called him "a great doctor" and the clinic much more affordable than others, saying they were 9 months out and had pretty much their final result. In a later 2024 post they say Welter wanted them to try minoxidil and finasteride first, with a great response (about 80% less shedding after 6 months, no side effects), and that they still consider a transplant in the future. Their two posts are not fully consistent about whether they had a procedure, and no graft count or technique is stated.

    male NW3 2,000 grafts surgery 2023

Automatic_Fun_8267, Norwood 3, had an FUE at NE Hair Restoration in 2023 and paid $5k. His pre-op meetings were with another surgeon, but on the day Dr. Welter operated without being told beforehand, and he felt he could not walk out. The plan of 1500 grafts was raised to 2000 that morning. At post-op day 5 he said he felt he got a botch-job, describing a very straight hairline in rows with sharp temples that was not what he agreed to.

    male 3,000 grafts surgery 2024

He had 3000 grafts (about 2600 in the crown and 400 at the front) with Dr. Ryan Welter at New England Hair Institute in 2024, at $3 per graft, which he thought pretty reasonable for Massachusetts. At week 7 he was in the ugly duckling stage using hair fibers and gave no overall verdict yet. He has a separate earlier surgery at another clinic that he would not recommend.

Interesting-Cell9663 had their transplant at the New England Center for Hair Restoration about a year before June 2026, with Dr. Welter. They called it a fantastic experience, saying Dr. Welter and his PA were great and follow up care was top notch. With the procedure and meds, their barber said you would never know they had a transplant, which was the result they wanted. No graft count or price is given.

IcyPart3982 says they had a transplant with Dr. Ryan Welter about two months before commenting in August 2023 and gives no graft count or price. They were still shedding and waiting on results, and felt the 'doctor praises himself a lot as he’s doing the work however the girls that place the hair are really nice'. They were told the clinic would fix things if they were unhappy but said they were nervous about the results.
