Dr. Vories

Founder·Carolina Hair Surgery

United States

Background

Michael W. Vories, MD founded Carolina Hair Surgery, described by the clinic as one of the few practices worldwide performing FUE exclusively, and has practiced hair restoration since 2002 1. The clinic states Vories was a transplant patient before specializing, which drove his choice of FUE 1. A second physician, Michael A. Mollo, MD, has joined, training under Vories's mentorship and, per the clinic, also his transplant patient 7. The practice runs two South Carolina offices, marketed as Charlotte, NC and Charleston, SC 8.

Procedures and techniques

The clinic performs FUE only, skipping robotic FUE over its larger punch size and donor scarring 1. Grafts are harvested with a mechanized 0.9mm-or-smaller punch, manually extracted to limit transection, then implanted with implanter pens under local anesthetic, without sedation 2. Full-head trimming with a #1 guard is standard; a no-shave or Long Hair FUE option exists for select patients, capped at 1,500 grafts or less per the FAQ page 3. A separate no-shave page on the site instead gives the cap as 2,000 grafts 6.

Pricing

The clinic's fee is a flat $6.00 per graft, with a $6,000 minimum for 1,000 grafts and a 10% non-refundable booking deposit 4. A separate FAQ page gives a broader typical-patient estimate of $5,000-$15,000 3. Financing includes 0% APR for 12 months, advertised as low as $450 a month 4. Patients traveling over 100 miles can be reimbursed up to 5% of the fee, capped at $300 3.

Booking and aftercare

The clinic states patients consult directly with a surgeon rather than a sales consultant 1. That initial consultation is complimentary and can include a spouse if preferred 3. The clinic states surgeons stay involved through follow-ups at two weeks, six months, and one year 3. It promises at least 90% graft survival, assessed at 6- and 12-month visits included in the fee, with shortfalls re-grafted free, though not a 100% guarantee 5. Offices are open weekdays, by appointment only 8.

Credentials and memberships

The clinic states Vories is a past president of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery's Board of Directors 1. His diplomate status with the ABHRS is confirmed in the board's own registry 9. The clinic also states he belongs to the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery and is an approved member of the International Alliance of Hair Restoration Surgeons 1.

Dezertfox27, an NW5 patient seeking a frontal hairline and temple restoration, first mentioned Vories in an August 2024 thread while comparing surgeons, noting they were restricted to traveling only within the US: "I'm fine with traveling anywhere in US that's why was considering Vories as well." By May 2025 they had a consult lined up with Vories (and separately with Dr. Arocha), but had not yet had surgery with either, and were also holding grafts in reserve for a possible future procedure with Dr. Ratchathorn. The only detail they gave about Vories himself was that "he does the whole surgery fue himself." No surgery, outcome, or verdict on Vories is reported.
