William Lindsey is oprichter en hoofdchirurg van Lindsey Medical, PC, met locaties in McLean en Richmond, Virginia.1 Hij verhuisde in 2000 naar Noord-Virginia om haartransplantaties uit te voeren.2 De kliniek stelt dat haar technici uitsluitend in eigen dienst werken en nooit "visiting" of "traveling" personeel zijn.3 De IAHRS-directory vermeldt de praktijk in McLean als "Nova Hair Center," terwijl Lindseys eigen site haar Lindsey Medical, PC noemt; geen van beide sites verklaart het verschil.4
Behandelingen en technieken
De praktijk biedt zowel FUT (strip) als FUE haartransplantatie aan.1 Bij FUT verwijdert Lindsey zelf de donorstrip en maakt hij de incisies in het ontvangende gebied, die zelden groter dan 1 millimeter zouden zijn.5 Het donorgebied wordt daarna gesloten met een trichofytische sluiting, bedoeld om haar door het litteken te laten groeien en het minder zichtbaar te maken, volgens de FAQ-pagina van de kliniek.9 Voor FUE gebruikt ze een op maat gemaakte punch die volgens de kliniek nooit groter is dan 0,9 mm, en de kliniek raadt sessies boven ongeveer 1.500 tot 2.500 grafts af, met als reden een lagere FUE-opbrengst door extra beschadiging van de grafts.6 Megasessies worden gedefinieerd als meer dan 2.000 tot 5.000 grafts, met grafts van één haar aan de haarlijn en dikkere grafts van 2 en 3 haren daarachter.3 De kliniek stelt dat Lindsey één ingreep per dag uitvoert, zonder gelijktijdige behandelingen.1
Prijzen
De prijzen voor strip (FUT) zijn gestaffeld naar aantal grafts, van $7.500 voor 800 grafts of minder tot $18.000 voor een sessie van 4.000 grafts, en FUE wordt apart geprijsd op $9 per graft, volgens de prijstabel van de kliniek.7 De FUE-pagina van de kliniek stelt dat dit ongeveer drie keer de kosten per graft van strip is, vanwege de moeilijkheid en de tijd die het kost om intacte grafts te verwijderen.6
Boeken en nazorg
De kliniek biedt een gratis consult met Dr. Lindsey aan, waarin een arts de situatie beoordeelt, zonder verkoopdruk.8 De dag van de operatie wordt beschreven als een aankomst vroeg in de ochtend om het ontwerp van de haarlijn door te nemen, daarna verdoving van het donorgebied en de oogst terwijl de patiënt naar de radio luistert of een iPad gebruikt.9 Daarna biedt de kliniek een gratis controle van het litteken na 4 weken en gratis bezoeken rond 6 maanden en een jaar, en adviseert ze 6 weken lang twee keer per dag vitamine E-olie of Mederma op de littekenlijn.9
Kwalificaties en lidmaatschappen
De kliniek stelt dat Lindsey board certified is door de American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (1996) en de American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (1999), en de fellowstatus heeft bij het American College of Surgeons en twee verwante academies.2 De homepage vermeldt een lidmaatschap van de International Alliance of Hair Restoration Surgeons.1
