Dr. William Lindsey

William Lindsey is founder and lead surgeon of Lindsey Medical, PC, with locations in McLean and Richmond, Virginia.1 He moved to Northern Virginia in 2000 to practice hair transplantation.2 The clinic states its technicians work in-house exclusively and are never "visiting" or "traveling" staff.3 The IAHRS directory lists the McLean practice as "Nova Hair Center," while Lindsey's own site calls it Lindsey Medical, PC; neither site explains the discrepancy.4

The practice offers both FUT (strip) and FUE hair transplantation.1 For FUT, Lindsey personally removes the donor strip and creates the recipient incisions, said to rarely exceed 1 millimeter.5 The donor area is then closed with a trichophytic closure meant to let hair grow through the scar and soften its appearance, per the clinic's FAQ page.9 For FUE it uses a custom punch stated to never exceed 0.9mm, and the clinic advises against sessions above roughly 1,500 to 2,500 grafts, citing lower FUE yields from added graft trauma.6 Megasessions are defined as exceeding 2,000 grafts up to 5,000, with single-hair grafts at the hairline and thicker 2- and 3-hair grafts placed behind.3

Strip (FUT) pricing is tiered by graft count, from $7,500 for 800 grafts or fewer up to $18,000 for a 4,000-graft session, and FUE is priced separately at $9 per graft, per the clinic's price table.7 The clinic's FUE page states this runs roughly three times the per-graft cost of strip because of the difficulty and time of removing intact grafts.6

The clinic says consultations are free and without obligation, speaking directly with Dr. Lindsey rather than sales staff.8 Surgery day is described as an early-morning arrival to review hairline design, then donor-area anesthesia and harvest while the patient listens to the radio or uses an iPad.9 Afterward the clinic offers a free scar check at 4 weeks and free visits around 6 months and a year, and advises vitamin E oil or Mederma on the scar line twice daily for 6 weeks.9

The clinic states Lindsey is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (1996) and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (1999), and holds fellow status with the American College of Surgeons and two related academies.2 The homepage lists membership in the International Alliance of Hair Restoration Surgeons and a recommendation from the American Hair Loss Association.1
