Dr. Bob True

Dr. Robert H. True is a retired hair restoration surgeon whose Manhattan practice was previously known as True & Dorin Medical Group.1 His own site now lists him as emeritus, recently retired.2 The practice continues under his former partner Dr. Robert J. Dorin.3 Dr. Dorin originally came to Dr. True as a patient seeking treatment for his own hair loss during residency, and the clinic states that after working together for many years, Dr. True "felt confident in the capable hands of Dr. Dorin and retired, allowing him to carry on the practice and their impressive legacy."3 His bio page states that his path into the field followed service work with underserved populations in the U.S., Africa, and Asia, after which he became interested in hair restoration surgery.2 He began training specifically in hair restoration in 1991 and founded his own New York City practice shortly after; the clinic puts his career total at more than 20,000 procedures across men, women, transgender, and patients of all ethnicities.2

Dr. True's CV lists two hands-on fellowships early in his hair restoration career: a preceptorship in surgical hair restoration under R.M. Elliott, MD, in Los Angeles, followed by further fellowship training in scalp extension and slot correction under Dr. Patrick Frechet in Paris.1 Because he has since retired, the technique and surgical-planning detail published on the clinic's site today describes Dr. Dorin's current practice rather than Dr. True's own methods, so it is not attributed to him here.2

His medical degree is from McGill University's Faculty of Medicine.1 He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery, and the CV states he served as the board's president.1 He was also a Fellow of the American Board of Family Practice.2 His bio page lists further memberships including an advisory role with the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, the American Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons, and the International Alliance of Hair Restoration Surgeons, among others.2
